BLUE MED definition phase has started and by the end of July all the Working Groups will have their kick off meetings for a total of 9 working areas and 150 project experts - coming from Ministries of Transports and Defences, CAAs and ANSPs of all involved countries - will work closely until August 2011.
BLUE MED Working Groups span 4 principles sectors. Airspace design (complemented by specific task forces for MET and AIS) where agreements will be made on new airspace structures “regarding of existing boundaries”. Additionally enhanced civil military cooperation mechanism and long term FAB development plans (beyond 2020) are benefiting from fast time and real time simulations. The technical and safety working groups will validate and implement technical improvements, assess safety and plan further integration towards a regional SMS. The FAB economic assessment will measure all FAB improvements and will assess the most appropriate charging regime, evaluating all aspects of a single unit rate. Moreover, a deep assessment of FAB environmental impact will be carried out. Additionally, a Legal WG will deal with regulation and with the drafting of a State Agreement for the FAB. Finally, a human resources WG will cover all human resources aspects.
