BLUE MED FAB Implementation Program:Progress Meetings of the IP Network and Surveillance Task Forces

11/02/2015

On the 28th and 29th January 2015, in the venue of the HQ of Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority in Athens, two BLUE MED progress meetings were held, the first on the implementation of the BM Regional IP Network and the second on the evolution and integration of Surveillance data.
Both meetings aimed to share needs, requirements and implementation projects among the four BLUE MED Partners with the scope to identify cross-border interconnections capabilities of local networks, migration plans towards European ATM communication networks (PENS) and improvements of the cross-border surveillance capabilities, by implementing a radar data sharing common program together with a shared maintenance plan for surveillance systems.
A cooperation between ENAV and MATS has already started, with the aims to enable the Maltese Partner to access to the Pan European Network via the ENAV IP Network and to share radar data, in order to improve the coverage at the borders.

One of the main discussion initiated during the meeting, was the implementation and connection with PENS, as a result of the transition to the IPv4/IPv6 network infrastructure. Complementary OLDI messages implementation within BLUE MED area, as well as the plans for AMHS, Voice over IP and Surveillance over IP implementation have been also discussed by the IP Network Task Force. The main issue raised during the Surveillance Task Force meeting was the urgency of MODE-S implementation and the benefits derived for all BLUE MED Partners. The BLUE MED surveillance sensor inventory and the surveillance maintenance plan have been finalized, and a roadmap to comply with the regulation EC 1207/2011 has been agreed. Future plans for the utilization of ADS-B/WAM technologies, as well as the transition to 5 NM separation minima, were also presented by the partners.

All activities carried-out in the BLUE MED Implementation Program are completely synchronized with the PCP Deployment and in respect of the EC regulation 716/2014.
Next meeting of the BLUE MED Task Forces has been planned in March 2015.
