06/11/2015

On 30 October 2015, the BLUE MED Governing Board agreed on the benefits that EGNOS could produce in the Mediterranean Area.

EGNOS is an EU satellite navigation system whose Signal in Space is provided free of charge to the users. EGNOS can support approach with vertical guidance up to a Decision Height of 200-250 ft, hence enabling increased safety, improved accessibility and operational capability at airports, costs savings and beneficial environmental impacts. In the Mediterranean area EGNOS can favor traffic growth and create cooperation opportunities with EU and non-EU countries in the basin. To reach the appropriate EGNOS Mediterranean coverage BLUE MED Governing Board would recommend the continuation of the Euromed GNSS programme.
